Situated along the windswept coastline of the South West, Hayle House stands as a striking example of contemporary design integrated into a natural setting. The project showcases a precision-engineered glass facade with oak frame, using cutting-edge glazing technology to enhance both architectural form and environmental performance. Designed with clean detailing and meticulous attention to materiality, this home brings together the warmth of timber with the sharp clarity of structural glass, resulting in an exceptionally refined residential space.
Central to the build is the bespoke minimal window® sliding door system, specified to meet the exacting technical and aesthetic demands of the project. This two-track configuration comprises three sliding panes and nine fixed panes, with ultra-slim 21mm sightlines that create a seamless expanse of glass across the primary elevation. Two expertly detailed fixed glass-to-glass corner connections wrap the façade, including a specialist opening on the North East elevation, carefully positioned to maximise natural light and provide an uninterrupted connection to the surrounding landscape.

Spanning an overall width of 23,535mm by 2,295mm in height, the system integrates effortlessly into the oak frame structure, forming a continuous glazed plane that enhances both light penetration and thermal performance. The largest single pane of glass weighed approximately 179kg, underscoring the structural considerations required in both design and installation. The result is an effortlessly elegant glazed frontage that combines lightness, strength and performance.
Each glass unit features a carefully specified build-up for optimal efficiency. The external layer consists of 8mm clear toughened glass with solar control SKN175 and heat soak testing, precision for a flawless finish. A 14mm argon-filled cavity with black warm edge spacer and black silicone provides advanced insulation, while the internal 8mm toughened and heat soak tested glass ensures safety and durability. Designed to resist a wind load of 1.37 kN/m², the system is fully compliant with the demands of its coastal location.
The aluminium framing is finished in RAL 7021 matt, with a marine-grade coating to protect against salt-laden air, an essential feature just 2km from the sea. All gaskets and silicones are colour-matched in black for visual consistency, and EPDM seals to all four sides deliver exceptional weather resistance. Internally, a matching RAL 7021 PPC lever locking handle operates a two-point Type 1 lock with shoot bolt, ensuring security without compromising on minimal design.
Delivered in partnership with Create Design South West, Lime Construction Ltd, and Martin Perry Associates, Hayle House is the result of coordinated architectural vision and technical execution.
