Minimal Windows Shortlisted for RIBA’s ‘House of the Year…
A sophisticated timber cladded house overlooks the Sussex Downs featuring slim frame sliding glass doors to capture the surrounding views. Sussex House has been shortlisted for ‘House of the Year’ by the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects). The contemporary new build uses the landscape as inspiration for the architectural design in order for the home to become part of the landscape, weathering with time.
The simple yet effective aesthetics are achieved with the large elevations of slim frame sliding glass doors. The vast amounts of frameless glazing helps to achieve the desired design brief of responding materially to the treeline site and rural setting.
RIBA judges described this quality constructed timber home “as an exceptional retreat that has been crafted with effortless quality perfectly framing the views surrounding the property.”
The large picture windows and frameless structural glass seamlessly, along with the thin 21mm framing of minimal windows, connect the house to its countryside setting. The glass elevations wrapping the ground floor of the home create the perfect indoor-outdoor living experience. the use of minimal windows ensure the natural light is maximised within the home creating brighter open plan living spaces.
Minimal Windows offer the contemporary design aesthetics desired for this extravagant architectural design. The rural location of the home means it is exposed to harsh weather conditions, making the thermal performance of the glazing and aluminium framing is a key design aspect.
The Sussex House project was shortlisted for the impressive architectural design. The contemporary exterior and the light filled interiors were key factors in making the environmentally friendly home a relaxing space to live in.
