The minimal windows® NGS range is engineered for individual sliding panels up to 6m high, 18m² in area and 1,500kg in weight. For projects requiring tall sliding glazing beyond standard dimensions, the minimal windows® technical team can assess the system, glass specification, wind exposure, structural support, automation and installation strategy from the earliest design stages.

Yes. The minimal windows® NGS system provides a defined product solution for conventional horizontal sliding panels up to 6m high.
However, maximum height cannot be considered in isolation. Pane width, total area, glass weight, building exposure, wind loading and the supporting structure all influence whether the proposed design can be achieved.

The original minimal windows® and minimal windows® 4+ systems may sometimes be engineered beyond their standard tested heights where the project conditions permit. Portland Road, for example, uses a minimal windows® 4+ sliding door measuring 5.77m high.
These larger bespoke applications require project-specific analysis and should not be treated as standard maximum dimensions.

The minimal windows® NGS was developed for exceptionally large sliding glass panels and demanding contemporary architecture.
Each sliding panel can reach:
The system uses thermally broken aluminium framing with the head, base and perimeter profiles concealed within the surrounding building finishes. When specified with the hidden handle option, the closing profile can also disappear into the wall, leaving only the slim vertical interlocks visible across the glass elevation.
This creates floor-to-ceiling moving glass with up to 99.3% transparency when the doors are closed.

The minimal windows® NGS Floor system allows the base frame to be recessed below the surrounding floor finishes.
Natural stone, timber, marble or other finishes can continue over the base frame to reduce the visible threshold and strengthen the connection between the interior and exterior.
The sliding rails and wheels remain accessible for cleaning, servicing and maintenance. This is particularly important for external doors in the UK, where drainage, leaves and debris need to be managed throughout the life of the system.
Integrated drainage, structural support and finished floor levels must be coordinated during the early design stages.

Performance values must be calculated for the proposed panel dimensions, glazing build-up and configuration. A stated system value should not be assumed to apply automatically to every 6m installation.

The structural and operational requirements of 6m tall sliding doors differ significantly from those of standard residential glazing.
A large glass panel creates a substantial surface area against which wind pressure can act. The required glass thickness, interlock design and framing reinforcement must therefore be assessed against the location and exposure of the building.
A sheltered London property may allow a different design from an exposed coastal or rural site.
Large insulated glass units can weigh more than one tonne. The selected system, wheel carriages, rails and supporting structure must be capable of carrying the full operational load.
Where the panels become too heavy for practical manual use, concealed automation can provide controlled and consistent movement.
The structure above and around the sliding doors must remain within the required deflection tolerances. Movement in the head structure can affect the alignment, weather performance and operation of the doors.
Early coordination between the architect, structural engineer, main contractor and glazing specialist is essential.
The ability to manufacture a large sliding panel does not automatically mean that it can be delivered to the site.
Road access, crane positions, lifting equipment, temporary storage and the route from the delivery vehicle to the structural opening must all be reviewed before the glass is ordered.
Oversized glazing needs to be integrated into the wider construction sequence. The installation strategy may affect when structural elements, external cladding, internal finishes and landscaping can be completed.

Automation may be incorporated into minimal windows® systems where panel weight, accessibility or the intended method of use makes manual operation unsuitable.
Concealed drive mechanisms allow large panes to move without introducing visible motors or bulky controls into the completed elevation.

Not every double height project requires an individual sliding panel measuring exactly 6m.
The original minimal windows® sliding doors support panels up to 4m high and 8.5m², with 21mm vertical sightlines.
The minimal windows® 4+ triple glazed sliding doors support tested panel heights up to 4.5m, areas up to 12m² and panel weights up to 1,000kg, with 26mm vertical sightlines.
These systems may provide the correct solution where the required panel area, thermal performance, glazing specification or architectural proportions do not require the full NGS capacity.
A combination of sliding doors and fixed glazing above can also create a double height glass elevation without requiring one moving pane to span the complete height.

6m tall sliding doors can be developed in a range of configurations, subject to the panel dimensions, structural design and engineering assessment.
