Bught Stadium in Inverness, Scotland, is a striking example of how carefully specified stadium glazing can define both the function and architectural identity of a modern sports venue. Designed to pair a ground-floor Shinty museum with a first-floor hall for spectating and events. Shinty, a traditional Scottish stick-and-ball sport akin to hockey, informs the building’s design requirements, where generous openings, smooth circulation, and visual connection to the pitch are essential. The project demonstrates how stadium glazing strategies can resolve circulation, environmental comfort, and visual connection while supporting the building’s role as a cultural landmark.

The south elevation is animated by two sliding stadium glazing systems that provide scale, operability, and clarity. The principal installation is a two-track minimal window system featuring a 6.5 metre-wide bi-parting sliding door, made up of two sliding panes and two fixed panes on the outer track. Glazed with 6mm clear toughened glass, it creates a generous, low-effort opening that can handle the demands of match day crowds while remaining practical for day-to-day museum access.

Also positioned at ground level, a secondary two-track stadium glazing system delivers a compact 1.5 metre-wide opening. This smaller installation consists of one sliding pane and one fixed pane, serving controlled circulation and service needs without detracting from the simplicity of the overall elevation.

Both sliding systems are double glazed to keep leaf weights manageable for public operation, while also supporting stable internal comfort conditions. Each system is finished in RAL 9005 matt, with lever locking handles designed to match the frame. A two-point 180-degree locking mechanism provides reliable security and smooth operation across both installations, ensuring durability in a high-traffic environment.

By combining expansive openings with refined detailing, the stadium glazing at Bught Stadium demonstrates how sliding glass systems can reconcile resilience with architectural transparency. The minimal framed glazing enhances accessibility, encourages daylight, and establishes a seamless visual dialogue between the stadium interior and the surrounding parkland.
