Greenways
Located in Harrogate, Greenways is a substantial contemporary home designed to maintain close connections with its gardens, terraces and balconies across multiple levels. The 9,000 square foot property incorporates generous living spaces, a double-height dining area and below ground leisure facilities, with large areas of glass used to introduce natural light throughout the extensive floor plan.
Multiple minimal windows® sliding door systems were installed across the ground and upper floors, providing access to the different outdoor spaces while preserving clear views through slim aluminium framing. Greenways is a strong example of glass sliding doors in Yorkshire, combining large openings, bi-parting configurations and thermally efficient glass within a sustainable new build.

Project Overview
The glazing strategy at Greenways centres around multiple minimal windows® sliding door systems installed across the property. The doors connect the principal living spaces with private gardens, terraces and balconies at both ground and upper-floor levels.
Several systems incorporate bi-parting doors, creating wide central openings that allow the internal spaces to extend outside. The largest installation measures approximately 7 metres wide and comprises six panels on a three-track system, with two fixed panes and four sliding panes.
The extensive use of sliding glass creates a consistent architectural language throughout the home while helping natural light reach deep into its large floor plan.
Design Intent
The home was designed so that each level could benefit from a close relationship with an outdoor area. This was particularly important given the scale of the property and the inclusion of substantial below ground accommodation, including an indoor swimming pool and cinema room.
Glass sliding doors were used to frame views and provide practical access without introducing heavy framing across the glazed openings. In the double-height dining area, expansive glazing creates panoramic views of the main garden and reinforces the sense of openness within the interior.
For architects, developers and private clients considering glass sliding doors in Yorkshire, Greenways demonstrates how multiple minimal framed systems can be coordinated across a large new build to support daylight, outdoor access and a consistent contemporary design.
System Engineering
The largest minimal windows® installation measures approximately 7026mm wide by 2173mm high. Its six-panel configuration includes two fixed panes and four sliding panes arranged across three tracks, with bi-parting doors creating a broad central opening.
Slim 21mm interlockers minimise the visible aluminium where adjacent panels meet. This maintains clear views through the large glazed areas and creates consistency across the multiple sliding systems installed throughout the home.
The combination of fixed, sliding and bi-parting configurations allowed each system to respond to its location while retaining a unified minimal windows® appearance.
Performance
The sliding doors incorporate double glazed clear toughened safety glass with a super insulating Low-E coating. This specification supports the thermal performance of the building while maintaining natural light and transparency across the extensive glazed openings.
Thermal efficiency was an important consideration because Greenways was designed to achieve Level 4 of the former Code for Sustainable Homes. The wider building uses insulated concrete formwork, structural insulated roof panels and other measures intended to create a continuous, highly insulated building envelope.
Solar shading was also incorporated into the south facing dining area to help manage overheating associated with the large glazed wall.
Outcome
Greenways demonstrates how glass sliding doors in Yorkshire can connect a substantial contemporary home with multiple gardens, terraces and balconies while supporting natural light and energy conscious design.
The multiple minimal windows® systems create a series of wide glazed openings across the property. Bi-parting configurations provide generous access for everyday living and entertaining, while the 21mm sightlines preserve views when the doors are closed.
For architects, developers and private clients planning a high end new build, Greenways provides a clear example of how minimal windows® sliding doors can be coordinated across multiple floors to deliver transparency, practical access and thermal performance.
