Meadow House
Tucked away in a quiet Essex village is Meadow House. Designed by the award-winning Ström Architects, is a striking example of how wrap around glass walls can elevate a landscape. At the core of its refined material palette and geometric clarity is a signature element that brings the entire scheme together. Wrap-around glass walls crafted from minimal window slim profile sliding glass doors. These expansive glazed panels define the contemporary pavilion aesthetic of the home, offering both uninterrupted views and an exceptional sense of transparency throughout.
The home is arranged as a pinwheel of distinct pavilions, each connected by a central double-height entrance volume that acts as the project’s architectural pivot. This dynamic layout is made fluid and coherent through the use of slim profile sliding glass doors that blur the line between indoors and out. From the formal living area to the master bedroom, the wrap around glass walls opens effortlessly into the landscape through carefully placed open corner configurations and oversized panes, some over 4m wide and weighing up to 396kg, installed with precision via crane.

In the main kitchen and dining area, the sliding doors align globally with the steel structural posts and the deep overhanging roof, creating a pure visual language of clean lines and minimal interruption. Here, seven oversized panes set within two corner openings work in concert to create wrap around glass walls that dissolve the boundaries of the internal space. When fully open, over two-thirds of the facade disappears, connecting the pavilion-style interior directly to the mature parkland garden beyond. The effect is a serene sense of immersion, reinforced by flush thresholds, automated shading concealed within timber-lined ceilings, and slender 21mm sightlines finished in RAL 7016 matt.
This level of detail extends across the entire project. In the master suite, floor-to-ceiling sliding panels in a southwest-facing open corner configuration welcome in the morning light and panoramic garden views. The snug, accessed via an outdoor kitchen area with a pine tree piercing the roof opening, extends into the landscape when its slim sliding doors are opened. They are perfect for indoor-outdoor entertainment beside the narrow lap pool.
Meadow House is as much about restraint as it is about expression. The heavy stone walls stretch from inside to outside, acting as both visual anchors and landscape-defining elements. The timber soffits run in a continuous plane across roof overhangs, reinforcing the home’s sense of flow. But it’s the integration of minimal window systems that ties everything together, providing scale, transparency, and precision that elevate this home far beyond a conventional replacement dwelling.
For architects working on residential projects where landscape, light, and purity of form take precedence, minimal window, slim profile sliding doors are an essential design tool. As Meadow House demonstrates, wrap around glass walls are not just about views—they’re about creating spaces that breathe, connect, and inspire.
