ToggleSliding patio doors for outdoor access
Larchwood is a prime example of how to integrate minimal windows sliding doors into a modern project to maximise light and to provide patio access from various rooms.
Larchwood employs various sliding patio doors to provide the family access to their outdoor social area and bespoke swimming pool.
The use of external timber cladding finished in a burnt-black colour is accompanied by the slim sliding patio doors which have also been finished in a matte black power coat to ensure the modern, dark theme is carried throughout the home.
Sliding patio doors with a flush finish
The first installation of sliding doors is a two track system that has one sliding pane which opens to the left creating a “side entrance” to the patio space. The sliding door is apart of a three leaf corner installation which allows for more light to travel into the living area.
Many projects that have a similar corner glazing system would opt to make the fixed panes sliding so that they bi-part and create an open corner system which provides a much larger opening. In this case, the homeowners wanted the kitchen sliding doors to be the main patio access system, with the two track system being there for ease of access via the living room.
Kitchen sliding doors
The larger installation of sliding doors is a three track, meet-in-the-middle sliding system which creates a unique opening either side of the static leaf.
This configuration is one that is rarely specified, but for Larchwood, it is a great addition. The right sliding side provides a huge opening for ventilation while cooking and the left sliding side provides easy access to the patio and garden.
The flush base frame of the sliders mean that the access from inside to outside is fully seamless and comfortable for wheelchair users or people with limited mobility.
