Ventilation for frameless windows and doors can be an important consideration when designing highly glazed spaces. As the outer profiles of minimal windows® sliding doors are completely concealed within the surrounding building finishes, traditional frame-mounted ventilation solutions are not always suitable. This is where integrated slot aeration provides an effective alternative.
By incorporating multiple locking points along the locking edge of the slim sliding door, the system can be secured in a partially open position. This creates a continuous ventilation gap along the full height of the sliding glass door, allowing natural airflow while maintaining the minimal appearance of the glazing system.
When the door is positioned for ventilation, the T-junction of the locking profile moves slightly out of the receiving U-profile concealed within the wall. This releases the weathertight connection at the locking edge sufficiently to allow full-height airflow, providing secure ventilation for frameless sliding doors without introducing additional visible ventilation components.
It is possible to incorporate up to three locking points within the minimal windows® sliding door system, allowing the doors to be secured in either the fully locked position or one of two ventilation positions. These ventilation settings create a 20 mm or 40 mm opening along the full height of the sliding glass door, providing discreet and controlled ventilation for frameless windows and doors.
This integrated slot aeration option allows architects and specifiers to introduce natural ventilation without compromising the minimal appearance of the glazing system. The outer framing can remain concealed within the surrounding building finishes, maintaining a seamless floor-to-ceiling glass design.
The amount of ventilation required for a building should be determined by the principal designer, but slot aeration can provide a useful addition to the overall ventilation strategy of a new build or extension, particularly where conventional frame-mounted ventilation may not be suitable.
The ventilation locking points located within the ceiling and floor are finished to match the aluminium profiles, helping them integrate discreetly into the overall design. Small cut-outs are required within the floor and ceiling to accommodate the locking points, but once installed, they sit completely flush with the surrounding finishes, just as they do in the standard locking position.
By integrating secure ventilation directly into the sliding glass door system, minimal windows® can help create comfortable, well-ventilated and bright internal spaces without introducing additional visible ventilation components.
