The Award-Winning Hampstead House

Contemporary New Build Using minimal windows® Slim Framed Sliding Glass Doors

This house located in Highgate, was demolished and rebuilt into this luxury two-storey, 5-bedroom contemporary home, including an underground floor with indoor pool.

This modern family home is situated within the Heath Fringes Conservation Area and overlooks a golf course. The planners declined the rights to build further upper floors leaving the only option to incorporate the basement into the design. 

Belsize Architects contracted IQ® Glass UK to build a two-storey glass box to the rear of the garden, of which they used minimal windows® slim framed sliding glass doors. The minimal windows® sliding glass doors frame the basement void and allow access out into the spacious back garden.

It was important for the homeowners to be able to provide space for family living as well as entertaining while maximising the scope to enjoy the view of the golf course. 

The use of the minimal windows® sliding glass doors was a no brainer for this project, as they have the slimmest sightlines in the UK to date, encouraging the maximum amount of natural lighting into the basement, which was a key element of design in this project.

The large sunken courtyard to the rear allows the rooms at the basement level to have an open space in front of them while enjoying the view of the swimming pool to the other side of the courtyard.

The new house is twice the size of the previous house while respecting the design and height of the adjoining buildings, though the playful yet elegant design stands out amongst the surrounding buildings. 

The Hampstead House won first prize in category 3 of the Keller Export Award 2018 and was featured in Build It November 2018.
