Villa sliding doors in the Netherlands

Villa 22 is a project completed by the minimal windows team out in the Netherlands. The bespoke home sits upon the floodplains of the River Maas and gained its unique name due to the steep slope (which is exactly 22 degrees) of the mountain that Villa 22 sits on.

As well as the unique location, the home itself has been design and constructed in an ultra-unique way making use of hard materials such as concrete, these harsher materials contrast well with the elegance of the villa sliding doors that offer patio and balcony access.

Villa sliding doors – Combining building materials with glazing

As mentioned above, Villa 22 has been constructed focusing on three main materials: Concrete, timber and glass. This is a combination that is not new to architecture, but rarely used to its full potential as the harsh colour and feel of concrete can contrast brilliantly with dark timber shades and sleek glazing systems.

The vast concrete walls enclose the home and provide full privacy for the owners, this allowed for a great deal of glazing to be used throughout the building including various sets of villa sliding doors that provide access to the large balcony areas.

The details of the villa sliding doors

Several sets of slim sliding doors have been designed and installed across Villa 22.

The largest installation being a three track minimal windows sliding system which has been powder coated in a RAAL grey tone to match the natural grey shades of the concrete surrounding it. This system provides access to one of many balconies throughout Villa 22 and features fully flush base tracks for smooth interior to exterior transition.

Another installation has been placed next to the interior swimming pool and gives full access to a second balcony area which is more private and easy accessible directly from the swimming area. Due to the location of these sliders, they have been fully marine grade coated to protect the glazing and aluminium framework from the chlorine and swimming pool water.

There is a third set of sliding doors, this system much smaller than the previous two but still designed to be three tracks wide. These doors provide access to a balcony which is heavily clad in timber and overlooks the River Maas.
