A contemporary structural redevelopment in the heart of Westminster uses slim frame sliding glass doors across all 9-storeys as the main facade design. The renovation took place to transform a commercial office block into nine luxury private apartments to complement the original 19th century Westminster House. The contemporary design incorporates minimally framed sliding doors as a key design feature to the rear facade of this redevelopment. The large elevations of glass provide bright open-plan living spaces maximising the exceptional views of St James Park, Green Park and Buckingham Palace.
Triple glazed slim frame sliding glass doors allow each apartment to capture views, maintaining the minimal sightlines within the rear glass elevation whilst retaining high levels of thermal performance and weather resistance, even on the upper floors.
The floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors are used throughout the nine luxury apartments to ensure there is sufficient ventilation and natural light. Frameless glass balustrades have also been integrated into the sliding glass doors creating Juliet balconies around a courtyard, allowing each apartment of every floor to open up their living spaces, maximising the city views.
The aluminium framing was finished with a dark grey powder coat, RAL 7016. Contrasting effectively with the white rendered wall at the front of the luxury apartment block, giving it a statement design finish.
For luxury residential development designs such as this one, incorporating high security glazing is vital. Our minimal windows Sliding Door was recently tested to PAS 24 standards in a two pane configuration and surpassed all requirements.
This allows the high security glass door to be used for high end flats and apartments all around the word, providing security, high performance levels and stunning views. The ultra-slim 21mm sightline of the sliding door system maximises the flow of natural light into the living spaces, as seen here, whilst offering clear city views.
