ToggleFarmhouse sliding doors
Ashridge Farm has ben built in place of two run-down industrial sheds that became derelict. The farmhouse has been designed to have two main living areas that are joined via a structural glass link which allows for smooth transition from one building to another.
The projects stays true to its barnyard roots with the use of timber cladding and traditional red brick a large focus. These classical materials combined with luxury, modern glazing allows for a unique home to connect with the amazing views surrounding it.
Farmhouse sliding doors to connect with the outdoors
The farmhouse sliding doors installed at Ashridge Farm allow for the owners to easily access their spacious garden and patio area which in the summer will be a hub for family events and gatherings.
The purpose of detailing the minimal windows farmhouse sliding doors was to ensure that the new living room and kitchen had ample amounts of natural light throughout the day. Not only does this improve living conditions but saves on using artificial lighting which can cost both the environment and the owners.
The minimal windows sliding doors are the ideal option for sustainable projects such as this one thanks to the high levels of thermal performance that is achievable. The sliding system achieves a base thermal performance level of 1.1 W/m2k which is great for keeping heat in and keeping cold out.
Details of the farmhouse sliding doors
Two main configurations of slim sliding doors have been used in this project. The first set features an open corner configuration which gives access to the garden patio from the living room. The sliders are 2128mm high which gives ample room for comfortable usage. With an open corner configuration, it allows for the opportunity to use the doors for both ventilation and access. Having this option further justifies the choice of opting for a sliding system opposed to something such as a bi-parting door configuration.
The second set of sliders is a two track bi-parting system that is used to improve ventilation when cooking and to open up the kitchen to the outdoors. This system matches up with a small installation of structural glazing that has been installed above the sliding doors with glazing bars to link up with the mullions when the doors are closed. The height of this system is 2588mm with a total width of 3030mm.
