Large Sash Windows Capture Sea Views
Overlooking the sea at Saint Peters port in Guernsey is The Moorings. This architecturally designed house includes large installations of minimal windows throughout including bespoke large sash windows created from the minimal windows sliding profiles.
By using the slim 21-millimetre aluminium profiles of the minimal windows, the architects were able to create full-sized sash windows that span the entire wall of the rooms, with just a 21 millimetre sightline horizontally across the glass elevation.
The large sash windows at The Moorings work on a counter weighted system with an intricate steel structure required for the bespoke home. This glazing subcontract was provided by IQ Glass International who worked closely with the architects to ensure all the openings were suitable for the large sash windows.
You can see externally how the slim aluminium frames of the large sash windows merge seamlessly with the grey brick to the exterior. Internally, the sliding sash windows are frameless with just a slim horizontal bar separating the fixed base unit and the sliding unit above.
To open the windows, the occupier simply slides the top panel down and the base acts as a glass balustrade creating a bespoke Juliet balcony design for the master bedroom suites.
Typical minimal window sliding doors were used throughout the bespoke home in Guernsey providing access to various patios and balconies for all the living and bedroom areas.
Due to the sea facing location, all the minimal windows framing was marine grade finished and the glass specification designed to withstand the heavy wind loads of the coastal location.
This glass installation was designed and installed by the team at IQ Glass International with architects The Drawing Room (based in Guernsey). The glass and the large sliding sash windows were a key part of the architectural design in order to capture the sea views.
