Contemporary extension with bespoke structural glass and slim sliding doors
minimal windows® aluminium sliding doors were installed into a contemporary bespoke glazed rear extension to create a connection between the garden and the kitchen space. The homeowners’ aim was to expand their living space and create a new, light-filled area with a strong connection to nature. A grey zinc cladding was used in the extension to contrast against the traditional red brick home.
A bespoke gable end glazing glass wall, a frameless rooflight and casement windows were also installed as part of the bespoke glazing package by our glazing partner IQ Glass. The bespoke glazing design was installed in two panels with a frameless glass fin to support the structural glazing.
A two pane minimal windows® sliding door was installed, the oversized panes have an ultra-slim 21mm sightline to keep a minimalistic and modern look in the extension. The slim framing system provides uninterrupted views of the outdoors.
The aluminium sliding glass doors have a completely flush threshold which creates a step free access to the outdoor seating area. Slim framed glazing systems added a massive amount of natural light into the dining area and the high thermal performance of the minimal windows system gives the occupants the ability to enjoy the extension all year round.
Internally, light colours were used across the walls, ceiling and floor, which along with the vast amount of natural light helps to make the space feel larger and helps to forge a strong connection with the outdoors.
minimal windows® pairs well with different types of glazing systems as we can see on this example. High glazed contemporary extensions add value to the home, according to The Times, a kitchen extension can add 15% value to a home.
