How to create the perfect apartment with minimal windows® and juliet balconies
This mid-nineteenth century building in central London was turned from offices to high end luxury apartments featuring large sliding patio doors by minimal windows.
The large glass elevations turn what could be dark centre facing apartments into light filled homes, able to provide the living environments the developments target audience demands.
The street facing exterior of the building was sympathetically renovated by architects JRA, the design maintained and left in keeping with the rest of the buildings in Covent Garden. Two new floors were added to the top of the building where more modern finishes could be utilised.
Each of the 14 apartments had outdoor space which was accessed and connected to via bespoke minimal windows sliding doors. In addition, light was brought further into each unit via the minimal windows sliding doors that overlooked the central courtyard.
The door frames were finished in a specialist bronze finish to suit the exterior façade pallet as well as the interior design.
The top floor penthouse offers panoramic views of London thanks to the large and minimal elevation of glass with minimal windows sliding panes integrated for ventilation. These sliding windows were integrated with frameless glass balustrades to allow floor to ceiling glass with integrated openings. The frameless nature of the sliding glass doors paired with the glass balustrades offers a full glass façade to the luxury penthouse apartment.
Elsewhere in the penthouse, a run of minimal windows over 7m wide provides clear access to a private balcony. The wall of sliding glass spans from wall to wall with only the 21mm interlockers of the sliding doors visible between the glass.
Achieving the BREEM Excellent accreditation, the luxury development was designed and built to only the highest standards. The minimal windows sliding door system is the only one of its king in the world that has achieved the PAS 24 certification for security, making it the only solution possible to achieve the security demands of this high end, inner city residential development.
